I was thinking about using Wikipedia as a means to get more visitors to one of my blogs and was wondering if any of you had any ideas regarding how to add links to Wikipedia (without getting them flag by the wiki bots)? I tried doing it a few times today, but they keep getting deleted.

FYI: This blog is 100% new content, and it does relate to the Wikipedia page I am posting it on.

One of the most effective techniques is to find a statement that needs a citation and build a page that can be used as a reference. Or modify the wikipedia page to add the statement and add your site as a citation.

Awesome idea. Even though the links are no follow. Most of the pages are PR 4-6. That should give some G juice either way.

I just went and added some links in the external link section of the post. I did hit a road block after adding my third link. I got a spam alert. I just turned on my IPrental Firefox addon and then added a few more.

I'll check back tomorrow to see if they are still live.

Wikipedia links are all nofollow, is it still worth it to get links there?

Tons of websites scrape pages from Wikipedia, so you'd be getting links from those websites as well.

Yep if you can get a link on wikipedia you can get a fair bit of traffic from them with people clicking on the link.

I have been adding links on Wikipedia, but it seems like only the legit ones (or ones which seem fairly legit) will stick. Most of the time I can get past the bots, but it seems like human users like to delete my links (The higher the PR the sooner the link gets deleted it seems).

I'm getting all my links to stick. I'm also getting 5-10 visitors a day per site. Not much but every little bit counts. I'm changing IP's and not posting more than 1 links per website per day.

I am getting my stuff to stick now. I am unsure of how many people this is bringing to my site, but at least it sticks (This is on some of the higher ranking wiki pages to). All you have to do is drop the name of your site, and a few keywords that you rank high for. Make the specific topic sound interesting, and you should get a few viewers just because they want to look up more on the topic you mentioned.

I am sure most of you have better methods, but for now this seems to have the highest rate of success for me.
