Getting into Wikipedia?

Has anyone successfully listed their website or business in Wikipedia? Their rules basically clearly state you can not post your own company to Wikipedia, even if it is not promotional. However.. very obviously many many businesses are on there. How can you get listed?

"There must be evidence of your notability published in reliable sources, see Wikipedia:Notability and Wikipedia:Notability (people)."

Have you ever got to this point?

Well I think the first step is to have your business be newsworthy or large enough to have a whole wiki page dedicated to it.
After that you need to pretend to be a neutral party when making the wiki article and hope it sticks. A lot of it depends on how
noteworthy the business is in the first place.

I think to get listed any business or company site on wikipedia, they must have some 3rd party references from highly reputable websites like News sites, Magazines and TV news sites... talking about your company or have something really good piece of information/news about your site.


But on the another hand I think to get page on wikipedia is not good because you can't control the wikipedia page, if something bad happens or negative listings/news published on Internet! it would be update on your wikipedia page too and wouldn't removed unless and until wikipedia contributors allow you.
 
I doubt anybody here has legit business big enough to post. And if they did I doubt they would share it on BHW.
 
Nevermind the business page, it's quite easy to get links from wikipedia from other pages but you will need to keep an eye on them because your competitors will probably start editing pages. You're more likely to get traffic from wiki pages in your niche too.

Can you share any tips on how to get there? I know you can edit pages and references but links will be usually deleted almost immediately.
 
You will most likely not be able to get your own Wikipedia page. However, if you have a related website, you may be able to. For instance; the Wikipedia page is about 'CPUs', and it just so happens you have one of the top websites about CPUs and their specs. I am sure you would be able to state a source.

I posted a job on Odesk and got a "reliable editor" or whatever they are called to post a link to one of my pages on a fairly high profile page in health niche. The link is a nofollow but I got some traffic from it. Also, it was live for quite some time (over 5 months) before I changed the address of the website and changed the link. It was deleted few hours after I made the change...
 
You can always try to make a Wikipedia page of your site. The worst thing that can happen is that the page will be deleted soon after.

Wow! I didn't know you could hire these editors on Odesk...lol That changes everything :)

These links are all No-Follow so they dont really get you much in SEO benefits. Its good PR to be in wikipedia, but not if you are trying to fake it.
 
I would try Fiverr for getting some experts.
Wikipedia requires editors to have at least 75 edits before they earn the credibility factor.
Has anyone tried Mechanical Turk for this?
