Getting hired to fire people

My daytime job consists of me installing and maintaining network infrastructures (ie anything that plugs into a network switch/router), and I do a bit of work for national chains. Some of these national companies don't tell their employees that their sales office or store is going to close, and I end up being the bearer of bad news. It's almost like catching a deer in headlights.

So I feel like lately I am hired just to fire people.

Often times these people can't get through to their bosses, and I just have to keep packing up their computers, phones, and servers. All I can really say is "yeah, that sucks", cause I don't really know these people. I gotta do it again tomorrow, and so I just wondered why people can't do their own dirty work?

If you own / owned a company, would you have the guts to fire your people, or would you hire out and let someone else do it?

Businessmen do not do their dirty work, they hire professionals for every work whether its firing or hiring.

Firing people is easy. I don't know if I'm cold but just saying.. I would enjoy the job

Until the day someone comes and packs up your shit.

It is not dirty work, however it is challenging and I do all of my own firings. The reason I do it is because I like to motivate them during the process so they are off to a good start!

Well, honestly being fired is a bad thing, especially if you are just on contract basis. If you are permanent employee, if you are fired, you will have some compensation, depending on your position, 3-6 times of your monthly salary, that's government rule in my place. But if you are just on contract, you are out of luck.

Honestly, the bearer of the bad news should be the boss themselves. It should be the one that "survives". If a whole branch office is closed off and everybody there fired, the boss of the branch manager should be the one telling the bad news.

When firing people, there are two conditions that are different :
a.) Due to financial condition/change of strategy, I have to fire someone. For this case, I will tell the employee myself. For change of strategy first I will try to move the employee to other division though.
b.) The employee is still working with me, but doing unproductive things that is not covered by the firm's rules. For example : being a nuisance, spreading negativity to the firm to the newer employees, spreading bad habit to other employees, too much gossiping, etc. For this case as a direct firing can't be done, some HR tricks is necessary to make the person hate the firm even more and just quit. So, I use professionals for the second case.

Hire great talent + workers to begin with, so you avoid it. It comes down to how you are as a person & communication between your team members.

Laying people off sucks. Firing people on the other hand should be enjoyable.. because they deserve it right?
