Lot of pressure at work to find ways to get cited by AI.

Organic clicks CTR is like 0.7 %, traffic is down by half.

How to get it done. Don't say backlinks.

I’m under pressure at work to figure out how to get our brand cited by AI. Organic CTR is barely 0.7% and traffic has dropped by half. how can we fix this without relying on backlinks?

Publish clean high authority content with structured Q&A, schema markup, and unique data/insights. AI often cites sources that are well formatted factual, and easy to parse

I don't know if there's even a way to accomplish this. I've seen AI cite only authority websites most of the times. They'll even cite from reddit which is nothing by UGC.

Easiest way is to structure your content so AI can “lift” it directly clear Q&A format, concise definitions, data tables, FAQs

Publish original stats or unique insights

Also make sure schema is solid so crawlers can parse context. Backlinks help, but formatting + originality is what gets you cited

Engaging content with unique insights or examples is more likely to be referenced; think beyond just generic info.

If your website is mentioned on Reddit or Quora answers, ChatGPT will probably take it into consideration

My website is getting cited by Google AI Overview, I put FAQ at the end of posts, I'm using rank math FAQ section for formatting.

Make sure that the material you create directly answers conversational, long-tail questions in a clear, organized fashion so that AI models can show it as authoritative. Use schema markup, short summaries, and FAQs to make AI more visible and increase CTR, even while organic traffic is going down.

The core of getting cited by AI is making your content highly digestible and trustworthy. Since you can't use backlinks, your focus must be on technical and on-page optimization.
First, implement structured data (Schema Markup) on your most important pages. Use relevant schemas like FAQ or How-To to tell AI exactly what your content is about. Second, create clear, concise "answer boxes" at the top of your articles to provide direct answers to common questions. This structure makes it easy for AI to cite your content. Lastly, build your E-A-T (Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness) by having clear author profiles and unique, first-hand data in your articles.
