Getting back into "real world" employment - how?

with $1,5k/Month you gonna live the life of kings in morocco lol, man try harder learn more maybe your problem is you're going the wrong or the old way the game is keep changing every year try these new methods try apps business, but hey if you don't love this job i don't have nothing to tell you, the real life is harder for us especially if you are not rich

i am a newbie, the more i read about IM the more complicated it sounds...

I was just like you. I started in IT on the support end back in the 90's and quickly worked my way into top management and hated it. I hated the corporate structure and boot licking that came with it so I eventually left in the early 2000's to get into the internet business. First as a web designs when there was big money in it and then SEO and then just into running marketing for myself.

I did the same thing as you did. I got tired of sitting in front of a computer all the time and as the old saying goes an entrepreneur will work 80 hours a week to keep from having to work 40. I did decide at one point to go back into the work force just to cut back on the stress and hours some for a while. What I did was get more general on my resume and make yourself look well rounded. I was doing a lot of adsense stuff at the time so I put on resume that I ran my own company that did "contract work for google" and when ask about it I just said "we did ad placement for googles adsense program". Most HR guys are clueless and just thought it was cool we did work for google.

No matter what business you run or what job you have you are always a salesman. If you are selling fries at McD's you have to be a salesman and if you are the CEO of a large company you have to sell your vision to your staff so you are always a salesman and getting a job is not different. You have to sell yourself but getting your foot in the door to be able to do that is always a hard task. Dont get to specific on your resume. Make them want to call you in for an interview to get more details so you can sell yourself.

Dude... blackhat that ish.

Set up website for a fictitious company.

Shell out $12 to get an 1-800 number on Grasshopper.com for fictitious company. Get a friend to return the call if they call for a verification of employment.

Lie on your resume and embellish your skill set.

If you get the job stress like crazy for a month and learn everything you can. If you're intelligent you can figure it out. The worst case scenario is that they realize you can't hack it and they fire you but that's a pain for most companies and even if you're a complete moron you can probably get a few months of pay for they fire you.

nice old post....now i am in the same situations of the OP here in italy where i live. No one cares about an IM expert.

Hey peeps, OP here.

Been a while since I wrote this thread so I thought I'd let you know how I've been.

So I started doing short contract work in IT. I suppose you could call it tempting.

Incredibly you can get work like this with no interviews! It was tough but within 3 contracts I was basically back in the game. Now doing a pretty good job overseas.

The I'M money petered out in the end.

Job ain't perfect. I think I'M and job have pros and cons but at least now I have some bankable stability. I'm glad I'm not in the I'M game anymore. I would still do a project but it would have to be a single project for the long term.

I will reiterate though, don't kid yourself to think IM is a career. It isn't. Business is but not I'M.

I got a job at an ad agency not to long ago and this thread defined my situation before. I've obsessed over the different facets of IM for about a year and soaked up as much as I could than decided to portray myself as an authority figure to potential employers. If Frank Abagnale could fake being a pilot, doctor, and attorney than I felt I could fake being the right guy for the job.

My resume work history was kind of a joke so I had to improvise and elude to somewhat false personal experience. Use lots of acronyms and over-sell yourself. Someone said you need a degree for PPC and SEO.. I have found that to be false.

What you know is important, but what they DONT know is even more important. Fake it than become it. Adopt an attitude/persona that you are in demand and the interview is an opportunity for THEM to convince YOU to work for them. Body language and confidence is everything.

Moral of the story, lie your way in to the job. If you find you can't do it and get fired? Oh well you wouldn't have gotten the job if you were honest anyways.

Just because you didn't had success with IM that doesn't mean the same thing will happen to everyone.
Anyway if you treat it as a business then fuck yeah it is a business.

Why don't you move to another country? You could live very well and stress-free with $1,5k/Month.

Gotta agree 10000% on that. Here, down in Mexico, $1.5k/m is like a dream for most people bro!

$1.5K down here is around $22k mexican pesos (MXN) or something!

I know people living with around $400-$500 USD monthly living a decent life, so yea, $1.5k down here is REALLY good.

Now imagine poorer countries!

Relative to 99% of IMers, I had great success.

Even if I had greater success, my opinion doesn't change.

If you read thread from beginning you will see why I could not move

I doubt that you would be looking for a job if you were making 5-6 figures monthly.

Of course not. But my experience does not change the overall greater situation, that in 99% of cases I'M is not sustainable, not a career, not a business.

People need to quit kidding themselves.

Same with most things that are difficult in life, the 1% succeed and the 99% fail / falter.

If you truly dedicate yourself to anything, and make it your number 1 goal, you will achieve it.

I have a feeling, that the pressure of medical issues may have changed your perspective from "I want to succeed in IM" to "I want to be healthy, and be secure in case I'm not healthy".

Grow some confidence balls OP, now you are seeing problems and obstacles everywhere. That is a guaranteed way to live a frustrating and tearful life.

Keep drinking the kool aid folks!

Big problem for us men especially is confusing self belief for what is really delusion. Believe me I've been there myself.

By the way my illness had the opposite effect. It actually gave me the courage to take risks like IM.

This is a great thread worth reading for those considering giving up education for full time IM life has a way of levelling things out.

OP I know everyone laughs about the Mac job, but for the right person it is very very good, it has a great management training and renumeration plan.

Justifying his failure after the fact.

Sure it CAN have massive UPs and DOWNs, but if you reach that elite level nothing else can touch it in my opinion. You just didn't have what it took to make it; gave up, quit and now tell yourself whatever helps you sleep easier tonight about your current boring/regular employment situation.

Do you want to take a shot at the big time or have crappy stable income? Make the big time happen and don't stop until you make the life you want. Bumming me out even reading the OPs nutless posts, I picture a real loser who life has beaten down writing that.

IM is not risky at all, and it is a career just like being a salesman is a career or a marketer for an offline firm.

If that's what the OP consider is good for him that's it. Let's not be so harsh with him..

I was having UPs and downs in IM but mostly because of my fault, the $ started to come like i didn't had never in my life, ofc with hard work , so i was having difficulties working correctly with them maybe the age influenced that too, like investing more back and don't spend so much on crappy things, attracting low ppl in my life, etc.

I needed like 1-2 years to learn my lesson. Now i'm involved in offline business too (thanks to IM) so i can't say that i stay alone in front of PC all day (even when i did that, it was worth it, better than in a factory or other stressful area). Now I stay in front of a PC some h daily but not alone, with a team.

My main income is from IM and i want to keep that for as long as i live and as long as it's posible. Also i could never say that i regret the years that i spent doing IM even if tomorrow the internet will stop or something similar would happen.
