Hi Guys

I have a client who has had two nasty articles posted about him in Newspapers and these have shown up inGoogles index. Aprt from trying to get the newspapers to remove their articles any other suggestions to get these articles out of Google? If the newspapers won't play complete ball is there anyway I could get their web ops to insert some sort of tag that would prevent GoogleBot from crawling and indexing that page?

Cheers

if news papers won't remove them, which I doubt they will, you can make sure that the first page of google result does not show those 2 articles. Get social media accounts for your client's brand name and also company profile from the following sites:
crunchbase
pinterest
medium
zoominfo
goodfirms
glassdoor
reddit
sourceforge
fouresquare
angel.co
drupal.org profile
change.org

also would a client needs such help to get rid of negative press release, pay their invoices on time or at all?

It's very simple.
A newspaper wouldn't talk shit for no reason so you need to fix the issue. There must be a reason why they talk shit about your site so fix it and ask the newspaper to retract the statement or write a new article.

not possible. You'd have to be google to deindex them
we're working with the various web teams at the newspapers. the editorials ignore but webs are more helpful. The elegant solution is to have this tag inserted in the header of the actual page:

<meta name="robots" content="noindex"> it tells GoogleBot to crawl but not to index

It's actually more complicated than that and yes in this case they did talk shit and were badly informed...happens all the time. What I'm trying to get sorted out is la o cost way to do this before lawyers get involved. Plus it's complicated because subsequent legal agreements have been reached and these prohibit people from now talking about this. This a klusterfuck of the biggest magnitude and involves a major six figure screw up. My client was wrongly targeted.

we did this but with different sites but yes you are right this would be one way to go and I'll use these in future

Only way you can do this is by outranking the negative articles.

You could also post to hire a freelancer and get a ORM expert to do this for you.

You bet it does just check out all the antivaxxer threads on here

How did you do it? ''noindex‘’. Not only the owner of the site can do it?

Thats what I meant..we're working with the Web Teams of the sites themselves

It is almost impossible to remove the newspaper links directly, you need to outrank them with positive results. Get new articles published in their name and create properties that can be directly connected.

Online Reputation Management is not an easy thing to do but if you do things with right planning that can be achieved. And of course it takes time too, don't expect things to happen over night.

The "right to be forgotten" is a common name for a right that was first established in May 2014 in the European Union as the result of a ruling by the European Court of Justice. The Court found that European data protection law gives individuals the right to ask search engines like Google to delist certain results for queries related to a person’s name. In deciding what to delist, search engines must consider if the information in question is “inaccurate, inadequate, irrelevant or excessive,” and whether there is a public interest in the information remaining available in search results.

In 2018, the EU adopted the General Data Protection Regulation (the GDPR). Article 17 of the GDPR sets out a ‘right to erasure’ similar to the right the European Court of Justice had recognized under the older law that the GDPR replaced. Some countries outside the European Union have adopted similar laws as well.

Google won't remove a negative article on the basis on RTF. You would be getting a reply like below or something like that.

Based on the information we are aware of, it appears that the URL in question relate to matters of substantial interest to the public regarding your professional life. For example, information about current or recent professions or businesses you were involved with may be of interest to existing or potential consumers, users, or participants of the services or products provided by those professions or businesses. Therefore at this time we are unable to take any action with regards to delisting this URL.

Based on the information available to us at this time, Google LLC has decided not to take action on this URL.

To get an article removed from Google, you can request removal through the Google Search Console or contact the website owner to delete the content. If it's harmful or violates policies, Google may remove it through their legal removal request process.

If the newspapers won’t remove the articles, you can ask their web team to add a noindex meta tag to the page or block it in the robots.txt file. This will stop Google from indexing it. Alternatively, you can create positive content like blogs, press releases, or social media posts about your client to push the negative articles down in search results. This is called reputation management and focuses on promoting good content to outrank the bad.
