Some people think services like GetResponse and Aweber are this magical solution to blasting their email lists and hitting inbox every time, no matter how spammy the content of the email is. And when they get their account banned they believe all hope is lost and give up...

The truth is services like these aren't all in all that special. In fact they are pretty restrictive on what leads you are allowed to email and the type of content you are able to send. They charge more and more the bigger your list gets and before you know it your account get's banned for reasons like 'high spam complaints' or 'not allowed content'

If you're reading this chances are that you have been banned or you will eventually get banned. You have been working hard this past year to grow your opt-in list to 10k, 30k, 50k, 100k maybe even much more. If you log in tomorrow and find your account banned will you know what to do?

Let me tell you the basic outline of how you can take full control of your own emailing at only about half the costs of services like GR and aweber.

PS: I am in no way promoting blackhat email marketing here. This is for legitimate leads that you have collected through your own opt-in forms previously through services like GR or aweber. I do not condone the scraping of leads or buying email lists from shady suppliers.

    It's Simple

Essentially there are 4 main things you will need

    Domain & Hosting
This is where you will setup the domain you will be mailing from. Chances are you already have this. There are very cheap options available for this if you don't already have a domain setup, although if you are building your own opt-in list with GR or aweber 99.9% you already have your domain so this isn't something you should worry about. This is simply so your emails will be sent from an email with your domain like [email protected]

    Mailing Software
There are plenty of mailing softwares out there depending on the type of mailing you want to do. Some are more geared towards sending newsletters while others have sophisticated autoresponder templates and triggers that allows you to get very creative with the way to contact and convert your leads. I'm not going to get too deep into all the different softwares out there but this is what google search is for =) Also feel free to post any questions here about and i'll try to give you my best input. Since I know some of you will probably ask me what I use i'll just say my favorite is TEAR because it's ability to put unsubscribe links in your templates which tremendously helps inbox rates, they also offer some very unique tokens that help inboxing and having a realistic email such as [ToName], [city], {url|text|spinner}. It also cleans your list of bounces of bad emails too, so it always keeps your smtp pretty clean.

    SMTP
SMTP is what sends out your emails. You will be using your domain as pop3 in the email software for receiving emails and smtp for sending your emails. There are many 3rd party companies that do a great job at this with super high inbox rates. I've tried them all over the past several years. smtp.com has very good inbox rates but in my opinion is extremely overpriced. Sendgrid is much cheaper and has solid inbox rates. Mandrillapp keeps hitting the promotions tab in gmail so i've stopped using them. Amazon ses smtp is my personal favorite. It's the cheapest and inboxes like a boss, personally this is my all time favorite at the moment but i'm constantly testing other options to see what else is out there. If you have any questions about a specific smtp company feel free to ask me, chances are i've used them.

    Dedicated Server or VPS
Last but not least is I would recommend you getting a solid dedicated server. A VPS would be ok too. Since you are using a 3rd party smtp service you don't have to worry about anything like your server IP's. In fact you can even run your emailing software from your home computer when using a 3rd party smtp like sendgrid or amazon since you're not actually emailing from your own IP. You are using their service. The reason I don't like to use a home computer is because if let's say your power goes out that means your email campaigns are also now down. Maybe your first week or 2 you can get away without your own dedicated server, but I would def. get one at one point. The whole point of it is so your email software can run on a server that will always be running and you can access it from anywhere in the world.

There you go, that's all there is to it. It may be slightly confusing if you've never done it before but the easiest way to do it is just get started and start piecing the puzzles together. Once you can grasp the concept of sending out your own emails then you can really start to grow and expand your business. All GR and Aweber are is email sending software with their own smtp. So why not do it on yourself?! If you have any questions ask below

So I was Researching TEAR and saw that you own it, and while that is not neccessarily a bad thing, I was wondering something. Is there a way to send a string of email like once a week like Aweber does? I suppose i could just write the email and send it all myself, but then what is the point of an email responder? :p

I like the approach of TEAR and can definitely see where it would benefit, but i think it would be great to implement many different ways to reach out to clients! :beerchug:

Additionally, I am by no means bashing your company or anything, just a simple question. Responding to each individual email really bumps up the 'personalization' factor and probably really helps in converting leads! After my reasearch, if what i have discovered is true, I think TEAR is great IN ADDITION TO normal email autoresponders (aweber, Mailchimp, and getresponse)

A newsletter sending with the ability to schedule emails to be sent out on a later date is something that should be in the next update early october or even later this month.

Right now the autoresponder feature is mostly used to mimic life-like conversations to keep your leads involved and responses. It's def. a great addition to aweber =)

goodluck mate and thanks for the response :beach2(2)

I'm so stoked to hear that!! I love the way it is set up and everything like that as it is and the pseudo life-like responses coupled with newletter capability will be unstoppable.

I cant wait for that update to release!
