Has anyone seen this.
I got a message from FreeDNS, saying that google.com is registered as a free DNS and that you can register any subdoamin on google.com.

It is private and google have the right to take down your subdomain. Has anyone tried this?

I doubt you tested that, did you?

The only way to give a subdomain on google.com is by registering it on ns1 - ns4 .google.com
 
Thats why I'm asking has anyone tried it. The reason I got this is message is that I tried to login to gmail but was redirected to afraid.org, which would indicate that they have some control over where google subdomains go (mail.google.com)
 
I've tested it now and it does work, took 20 minutes but it the subdomain is redirecting to my hosting account. I wonder how long it will last
 
so what is the subdomain you registered, post it here ;)

Its just redirecting to my bluehost account and I have no info setup for it, so you get the bluehost error screen

You fell into a trap, is it possible you registered THEIR nameservers as default nameservers ?
Yes they have entered this domain into their own nameservers, that means everyone (no one in reality) using them will be able to resolve this.
Everyone can do that who runs a nameserver but it's useless.

I don't dispute that google has ultimate control over this or taht they couldn't shut them down in a minute but the fact is that I created a subdomain on google.com and when I type it into my browser, it is sent to my hosting account. I will setup the domain on the hosting account and see what happens
 
I can already tell you what happens.
Everyone but you and a hand full of selected people will get an error when they enter your subdomain because it does not exist.
Only good side: google has no way to shut that down :) How do you want to shut something down that's not there ?

Check your nameserver and use proper ones. Never use crappy nameserver that can't be trusted.

to a test host with a simple test page with the url written on it.
Can people visit the site and let me know if they can see it. I'm not using any specific NS to resolve my URLs, I'm connected to a large ISP and they are resolving this address to my hosting account.

Can you post here if you can see the page or not
 
nope, i can't see the page. Someone probably just entered google.com on afraid.org, as you see it says the domain is broken for them.

Users may use afraid.org with Google, however there are some guidelines.

First of all, afraid.org operates a separate set of DNS servers just for Google, which only Google can see.

The official policy is this:

1) At around 4AM PST each night, the previous 24 hours worth of domain additions are made visible to Google. (subdomain edits and updates are instant).

2) No subdomains created via the shared domain system are visible to Google. You *must* own the domain its self that you are creating a subdomain off of to have it visible to Google by default.

NOTE: Older subdomains may infact be visible to Google. To make it more evident of whether or not your site is visible to Google, a blue (G) will appear next to a record in the subdomains section as an indicator.

afraid.org does not at all wish to prohibit its members from publishing home brewed content.

If you wish to have your site seen by Google, and are not using a domain of your own, please contact an afraid.org administrator with a working URL showcasing your website. Also keep in mind it is very important you choose a domain which is not likely to disappear for building your website on. Any domains owned by afraid.org should be around forever, however domains not owned by afraid.org are not guaranteed.

I add some subdomains and after 24 hours we will see is it works or not.
