Remember that having a .xxx domain is just another way for ISPs/other companies to filter out adult sites. At least with a .com it isn't immediately obvious to a machine what the site is for.

weird concept behind this domain extension.
most adult webmasters seemed to have no interest in this whatsoever due to the inevitable filtering that will be easily applied to any domains using them.
they're also just too damn expensive to go buying in bulk. those who already owned the .com version of a domain don't want to have to spend extra money just to protect their brand.
on the other hand tons of mainstream businesses are buying them up just to prevent them from being used on adult sites.
So very few people seem to be actually buying them for their intended purpose, and most seem to be buying them to prevent them from being used.
