I searched the forums for this before posting, and didn't find it. Tamper Data is an addon for firefox, use it to get software for .01, the video is self explanatory. I'm sure the tool could be used for other things as well.

Maybe I need to watch the video again to see the advantage? PayPal would come after you in a red hot second.

using this method has a 50/50 chance of working, Paypal may or may not not come after you but the person you ripped off certainly will.

I used this method when I was buying turns for games I played a while ago

It might work well on custom order forms that someone has for their site. Usually when a company sells items and does their own credit card processing. Would be best if its an instant delivery item of course.

Actually I've had people do this one to me. Selling "rewards" on a MMORPG I used to have, people would (almost frequently) use this to try to get stuff free. The only problem is any decent script will check to make sure the $ amount is correct before crediting.
But then again, I'm sure its worth a try with most ebooks / quickly set up site.

Rather not bother with this unless you know for sure that the seller wouldn't check the amount paid. This seems too easy to detect, especially for low volume sites where not many sales are made.
