Ya register.com is a rip off.
Though, as Watley suggests, you could register with them, and then transfer it over to namecheap before it expires. If you time it right you might also be able to get a good deal when black friday rolls around next year.
 
I bought about 10 domains from Register.com with similar offers like $1.50 per domain or $2 per domain and renewed half of them just recently for $10 per year which is excellent renewal price compared to their standard one. You can still transfer them away at any time but trust me they will give you coupon for renewal just to keep you as their client... just ask their support about it.

Thanks for sharing this it really came just in time! Oh and I just read that there is a limit of 3 domains.

While some people think what to register I have hundreds of domains waiting to be registered but I wait for cheap offers and worry that I may not have time for them lol
