Yeah, it works and very simple but I'm not sure how easy it is to index those links.

PS: you can set default file permission to 'public' in profile settings.

yes let it be public for view only and it indexed so easily within same day.
 
Is it do-follow? What about indexing? Have you seen them being picked up by google just like that?
 
when you click on those 3 lines ==> Links ===> then they give you 3 links, so what is the exact link that should be indexed?

Indexed (after about 4 hours it appeared in serp).
My observations:
1. No description in the serp
2. I doubt google will index the file on its own.
3. Yes, I was indexing direct link to the article.

The link to your site is inside the PDF file, right?
