When I am working and the list is private, it is a race for the best ones always, that's without sharing the list in public.
If you see something you want, take action the good ones will be taken.
Also, there is a small margin for error, it happens.

Just wondering what tools / software you use to get this information?
I just use expired domains for free but I do have some access via group buys so I will have to check it out.
I'm always on expired domains looking for good metrics but also have to check it with other SEO tools.

I do not have a single toolset I use whatever tool is required for what type of link/domain I am looking for.
Here are a couple of generic tips.
TYPE - Generic high metric domains
Technique - Simply run DGH wild across whatever seed sites have traffic
Scrapebox - check for availability
DHG - The Scrape
DomDetailer - The Metrics
TYPE - Home Page Links From Niche
Technique - I export the complete list of domains active in my target niche from Builtwith, check the homepage for broken links with DHG or Scrapebox then check the metrics
BuiltWith - Niche list
DHG - Broken Link check
Scrapebox - Broken link check
DomDetailer - The Metrics
TYPE - Links from EMD in niche
Technique - use the list tool in scrapebox to extract all the domains containing the keywords from zone files containing keywords from your niche like this:
*KEYWORD01*|*KEYWORD02*|*KEYWORD03*|*KEYWORD04*
Home page check for broken links, for example, I have about 200k domains with casino terms in them, which I use to find casino niche broken home page links then build out authority PBN with those broken links if they meet other requirements using the same technique in the one above for TYPE - Home Page Links From Niche.
Just a couple of ideas, I never really stick to the same technique I use a new one for every network build the only things that remain the same are the requirement of good proxies and API calls for metrics which I tend to use Domdetailer for.
Hope that explains a little, I am not really one for tutorials
