German guy with english blog how google does know that?

Dear BHW,

I am german and I want to make my own blog in english with english keywords and so on.

But how does google know that I want to attract english speaking people?

When I search english keywords in google ads from germany I also get an range (not as high as in the usa, uk but yeah)

So is there some kind of settings I need to change to only get english speakers on my blog?

First of all you need to specify this HTML tag in your webpage - <html lang="en-US"> to let Google know that your website is in English language.

Secondly, where is your website hosted? Is it hosted in Germany based server? I suggest you change it to either US or UK based server. Change your hosting company if needed.

Thirdly, Do try to get backlinks for your site from English websites only.

Finally, if your website is completely written in English then there shouldn't be any problem for Google to identify it for English speaking people.

These are some basic but important points. Hope I managed to answer your question. All the best!
 
1) write your entire blog in english

2) host it on USA servers (be careful here not to confuse the hosting company with where their servers are located, you can join any hosting company you like, but check where their servers are located and ask them to host your files on USA server)

3) add your blog to your Google Search Console, verify its ownership, and then click on the "Legacy tools and reports" link inside of your GSC, choose "International targeting", select the "Country" tab, and choose the country from the drop-down menu, and save

There might be more steps (actually, I'm pretty sure there are), but I don't remember them at the moment. But these should get you going
 
  • Publish the content in English
  • Set the hreflang HTML tag to "en-us"
  • Host the site on a US-based server
  • Focus your linkbuilding efforts on English sites only
