Now we all know that google will try to serve results for local websites when searching within specific countries, when it deems those results are most relevant.

Obviously you can guarantee that "local type" search terms like "insurance" will always result in local sites being served to searchers since obviously insurance is country specific and serving international siets would be irellevant.

However, my question is: Would Google also attempt to serve local sites for more informational type searches, such as "weight loss" for example, where international sites could also serve relevant info?

Has anybody had any experience ranking for these type of keywords easily using local tld's and targeting local searchers?
