I have a facebook profile built up with a few thousand fans.

Recently, I am franchising the brand by creating clone websites in different US cities.

Question: Can I skip using a doorway page where the user selects their city when clicking a link in facebook?

For example, I have my main web design company facebook page and web design sites in los angeles, miami, and charlotte.

I would like to be able to direct the user to the nearest city's website without using a doorway page where they must choose the nearest city?

I am guessing this is possible, but how?

you can do it on your end (without relying on Facebook passiing you user's data)
by checking users's IP address on your "doorway" (lol) page and then redirecting to the proper landing page, all without any action from user or FB.

There are some free (reasonably accurate) geo IP databases available and I am sure here should be some packaged solutions too.

Also, if your FB fan page would be a FB app instead, then (I think...) you would be able to get user's data through FB API calls.

But in this particular case, it should be easier to just use IP address without having to program FB API calls etc etc

Thanks for the reply. I figured this out the day I posted it by using the max-mind database I think you were referring to. Difficult to test it though lol
