Genius hack for growth?

I own several large Instagram pages and I saw something happen earlier today that I found to be both annoying and genius at the same time...

Someone copied my username with the same profile picture, the name was exactly the same but only followed by 2 digits. So it all looked similar. The bio said the following: "My main page got hacked, follow this new page and don't react or respond to my other profile anymore".

I found out because he/she started following the few people I follow, including my personal account. I'm obviously annoyed but I think it must be a pretty smart trick to gain more new followers than usual with the F/U method in a short amount of time. The account is private and already gained 2500 followers so far.

Do you think this would work on the long term without getting banned? No intentions on doing this myself but just wondering. I don't run any accounts that are brands or official, just niche pages so I imagine if you stick to that it would be hard to get banned. Obviously it's a grey area and pretty much an asshole move to do this but I'm thinking it could be a nice little hack.

Yeah I'm seeing this start to pop up a lot, same exact bio each time.

I guess a better way to do it, is the set it up in a way as if it's a spare account in case the main one gets banned or restricted by IG.

It won't make the real account holder that mad when he finds out, and it won't raise too much talk between followers, especially if the account holder is famous a little bit.

I have better ways to do this things.
