Generic Anchor Text

I just did a backlink check on one of my sites and noticed that 66% of the anchor text is the name of that business (e.g. XYZ Enterprises), not a keyword I'm trying to rank in. Is this considered generic anchor text?

yes, when the anchor is not specific keywords you try to rank for and doesn't contain any of those keywords, thats generic anchor

With the most recent penguin update, it's better to have a mix of generic keywords linking back to your site. Generic keywords look a lot more natural to Google... because most people who link to a website don't link using anchor text related keywords. Keywords such as "click here" or "more information here" would be generic keywords but look much more natural. Hope this helps...

No, this is not a generic keyword. It's brand keyword. I love doing brand anchors/raw URLs/generic keyword that dilute the main keywords. My main keywords/other keywords rate is 30/70. Yup, I build links and only 30% or less of them have my main keywords.

No, I wouldn't say that is generic anchor text. Generic anchor text is anchor text that applies to any link on the web. Not many links will have "XYZ Enterprises" as their backlinks. Generic anchor text is more like "link", "click here", "check this out", "great site", "right here", etc.
