Hi Friends,

I am quite worried about the announcement by Google that it will implement Generative AI in Google Search in the coming months. I want to understand its impact on SEO. I want to know what kind of sites or niches will be impacted by this.

Also, will SEO become obsolete shortly?

only google knows this, but being the big google hater that I am I dare predict that ALL sites and niches will be impacted... eventually...

Also, will SEO become obsolete shortly?
when google stops ranking sites on merit / relevancy then yes, SEO will become obsolete, but only for Google. But google is not the only search engine, and some people are making over $1000 / month with Bing, so the more google drops the more other search engines will take its place and you'll have to do SEO for them, so don't worry about SEO becoming obsolete for as long as search engines exist

I think it will make a difference, but it depends heavily on your niche. If your websites are ranking solely on informational topics so you can monetize on Google Adsense or some other platform, yes, it will be impacted. If you're doing SEO for affiliate websites, eCommerce websites or any transactional/commercial keywords, the impact won't be that much. Other thing, let's not forget that Google makes huge money from Adsense publishers, so I think they will pay attention to not harm their pockets with this new AI.

SEO won't become obsolete. Sites focusing on quality content, user experience, and authoritative backlinks will still thrive. AI might handle more straightforward queries, but it’ll also create opportunities for new content formats and optimization strategies.

I do not believe SEO will become obsolete, but I do believe it may not be as easy to take shortcuts. I also think content sites that rely on ads to make money are likely to be hardest hit given that generative AI will assumingly be able to answer straightforward questions and provide concise info.

Offering some kind of user interaction or free service which you can embed ads/affiliate/subscription is the way to go long term i think.

Or mb go hardcore and launch hundreds of content sites... throw shit to the wall and hope that something sticks.

The best thing about the first option is that you can create legit content (even if its AI) driving traffic to your project and not worry much about it.

To be honest, Google already implemented several AI-like elements in its SERP, the most notable being People also ask section. Those sections close some possibilities, but they open new ones (for example, there are entire startegies on how to list in People also ask, like this one https://www.themediacaptain.com/how-to-populate-in-the-people-also-ask-section-on-google/)

I expect that with commercial-oriented queries, there will be something similar. Don't forget that Google's main product is providing LINKS to other products, services, or information that people need
