This is not some secret method, but there's levels to how you use it.
I own a lead aggregation company for local service businesses and I have seen it happens many times.
There's two ways generate leads for businesses using ppc:
#1 - Build a legit website > research keywords > spend $ > rinse & repeat
#2 - Leach on your competitors traffic
Your competitors already have a solid infrastructure, people already know them.
And if it happens that they are not tech savvy, you'll be able to take advantage of their traffic.
This is mainly used by SPAM categories advertisers in local service business such as
Locksmith / Garage Door / Roofing etc...
But also used in the SaaS industry a lot
I personally don't do it but some of the advertisers that send us leads use it to some extent.
Generally you just use your competitor company name on the keywords you are targeting to get some of their traffic.
But some people are taking it to a whole other level, forcing their competitors traffic to come to them.
Here is the blueprints of what I've seen:
First they research their business, finds all forms of communication with customers and write them down.
Find all the ads they are running online, Google/FB/Yelp, whatever.
Then they purchase a few domains similar to theirs, warm them up, and open ads accounts.
Can also be done from other domains that contain keywords of the industry.
Then they hire a click fraud agency, targeting their main ads and forcing them to pause their advertising.
If that's a small-medium sized business, it won't take long.
From there you simply take over their traffic, using ads and attacking on multiple fronts.
Some people send tons of fake phone calls/emails to their phone numbers and emails.
Some people sending them cheap fake traffic and using other methods to downgrade their domain authority.
Some people are using ddos, some are writing fake bad-reviews. Some use toxic backlinks and attacking their SEO.
The objective is to keep them busy while they farm their traffic, and this can run for months!
A lot of the biggest software companies are using it to some extent, so is it really that bad? to each his own
But I have definitely seen people make large amounts in short time using that method.
What do you guys think? Would you do it?
