Hello friends how hard is to rank a general things niche something like posting interesting things or how to things. not anything specific can be about life, tecnology, animals, etc but entertaining stuff.
or is it too hard to rank?

That would be hard, but could be successful with social media promoting. Google isn't the be all end all, I don't bother with it and I get over 200,000 visitors a month to one site. Give it a go, nothing gained as they say

I am into that sort of thing, but I do think that it would be hard to rank.

Well you'll never rank high for "technology" as a keyword in Google, but as a broad niche site you can probably mutter around and find yourself a quite a few longtails over time if you build a general site on the topic and keep posting pages on various sub-topics... But why would you want to? This is where choosing a keyword comes in. You put time into choosing your keywords and niche specifically so you don't have to taste time and money "seeing what sticks." So I wouldn't recommend it. Choose niche/topic/keywords that you have a shot at ranking well in and build around that and then expand.

i understand your point friend, but how can you choose a niche/topic or specific keyword for a entertainment site, since i can't keep posting over and over the same news for example.

Your niche is really important. You can select any niche if you feel comfortable. Technology niche is really competitive niche because there are a lot of famous sites related technology. You can not beat these site. It will be really difficult for you.
But if you think you really enjoy with technology then you can select. You have a lot of options to do better with technology niche. When you write article select low competitive keywords you should not compete with the top class site. You will get a lot of low competitive keywords but you should know how to research keywords perfectly.
You have to use different keyword research tools then you will get a perfect result.

Then whats the point? If it cannot get organic traffic. :(
If only their we're sites, where people went to engage with each other socially, and share things that interest them...man, if only there were something like that. Hopefully someday, someone will create a social site, where millions of people will share their faces and books of their lives, pin their interests, stumble upon interests, have a little bit of their own space on the internet, or share short 146 character messages into the ether and hope others see them...man, I bet some of those would be billion dollar ideas, although some might go bust and be bought by Yahoo to be dragged along past a reasonable point of existence.

I understand friend. Still i would like to get organic traffic from google, that's why im asking so many questions, it seems the only way to get organic traffic is to target low comp keywords that are still related to general things, like writting multiple articles for those keywords would work?

General things is the opposite of a niche, it's no niche.

Ok, general niche is HARD to rank for anything, because Google won't get a clear signal of what you're about.
I am building a site in a non-niche(meaning the niche is actually a collection of bits from multiple niches, nothing special for this niche). So when I post about something, my ranking isn't just competing with other same niche sites, but also focused niche sites for that topic. I am paddling upstream in a tugboat with a spoon against full power yachts and speedboats, when working solely in the SERPs.
When you want to do that, you need to find ways to get traffic, forums, blog comments, Q&As, social media; all while building your website's "authority" in the SERPs. If I just focused on those for results, I wouldn't see traffic for years.
Only reason to do something this asinine is to build something you're passionate about, because it is a constant struggle.

viral , entertaning and news all can be called general right? they don't talk about one single thing, like you said they are a collection of information with keywords that may or may not rank, i need a little advice in this, i want to build a entertaning site, somethings like did you know or facts about something, but i can't seem to find a way to make a entertaning site around a specifict thing, advice would be appreciated.

Most start heavily with social, which is a good key to getting traffic to start.
Find some easy keywords to start, especially something you can make clickbaity titles for.
Build up your site, and over time you'll be able to see some quality results.

Option 1:

Domain A, 25 DA / 25 PA

General running site
pillar page: generalrunning.com/nikerunningshoes

Option 2:

Domain B, 10 DA / 10 pa

Nike running shoes site

nikerunningshoes.com

which of these domain options is better positioned to rank for 'nike running shoes'?

You shouldn't choose a niche based on competitors because every niche has strong authority sites. Your goal should be to select a niche you're passionate about and then write about it in a way those big guys aren't writing. It's definitely hard but it's possible to outrank authority website. You just need to have content they don't.

It would be pretty hard, but plenty of companies do it — most news organizations rank for many different niches. I think the key is having an established social media presence across different sites. You can interact with people and draw the audience to your blog. However, you’d have to have amazing content to get the views to stick.
