I have been checking out the official google forums for people complaining about this issue and running any URLs they post through siteliner to see if I can find some sort of common issue for getting flagged.

Here is some data from those who posted their URL

Site A
Duplicate Content: 38%
Common Content: 33%
Unique Content: 29%
Pages: 799
Notes: Amazon affiliate site, each product listed has around 350 words. Product features copied straight from Amazon.

Site B
Duplicate Content: 12%
Common Content: 22%
Unique Content: 66%
Pages: 29
Notes: Amazon affiliate site. Most of the pages are in this fashion "Best *Keyword* for xxx" "Best xxx *Keyword*"

Site C
Duplicate Content: 3%
Common Content: 75%
Unique Content: 22%
Pages: 22
Notes: No real content, blank pages. It had one post 642 words which was an about page.

Site D
Duplicate Content: 6%
Common Content: 17%
Unique Content: 77%
Pages: 32
Notes: Amazon affiliate site. Each product has between 300 / 500 words. They had amazon reviews iframed and cart buttons on every page.

Siteliner will scan upto 250 pages to check for duplicate content.

If your site(s) got hit, reply to this thread answering these questions

Spun Content: No
Lowest / Highest Word Count: 550 / 2,000
Duplicate Content: 9%
Common Content: 18%
Unique Content: 72:
Pages: 51
Affiliate Program: Amazon
Notes: My Site. Content is unique but not created by a native English speaker so it can be a little off.
I submitted a reconsideration request almost immediately because I felt it was a false positive.

On an unrelated note. The people who post "Help" on the offical google webmaster forums have got to be the most arrogant pricks online.

Thanks for the siteliner share. Loving it! Especially the "Pagepower". This will be a useful thread. Thanks!

Siteliner is internal duplicate content checking tool not external.

It is not only about spun/duplicate content. Thin content penalty is also affiliate websites penalty. As you can see almost all the sites you checked is Amazon Aff. pages including yours. They won't lift your penalty unless you take off aff links on your page. It is what they do every christmas. They just clean the aff sites so they will make more money from Amazon.

How do you know that for sure? Have you tested this theory?

Becuase i saw this 10s of times before this update too. 10 of my websites in the previous updates got thin content penalty. They all had great content (about total 20K words of articles) and ranking well on google. The only common thing was they were all amazon aff sites. If you read they threads from yesterday and today almost all of the sites are amazon aff. sites. Or comission junction or clickbank. They are after aff. sites. They don't care much about spun content. I have like 150 sites full of spun content with no aff.links and only used to rank main websites. I added about 20 of them to the GWMT yesterday and today none of them got thin content penalty.
