General 'news' site. Good or bad?

I'm planning on utilizing a domain with different niches under different subfolders. What do you think about it?

Go big or go home. You would be competing with CNN, MSN, Fox, etc... Understand what you are going to go up against.

I agree with Fenchel, if you're going to target such a broad niche you are going to need to be prepared. Big investments are ideal for trying to compete in this niche, it is sink or swim.

Yep - this is a big money industry for sure. How would you plan on getting your content? I hate to tell you not to do it but I'd focus on a more specific niche than "news".

Of course the best way is to have separate domains for each niche, however if you are out of money, you can try doing that thing with subdomains, but it will be harder to rank... Nevertheless, it is really possible, I have few this kind websites and they are generating quite good traffic from google

saturated niche IMO.. I would try something else

It'd be more like an autoblog with all the possible sources (websites) in one blog. Grabbing all contents from other sites to your own. That was what I was talking about

Remember those kind of sites are hard competition.. You have CNN..Fox..
