Gaming Niche - WOW - Still Profitable?

Okay, so I know im SUPER late to the party but Ive kind of focused on other routes of "money making" in the past and havent looked into the gaming niche too much. I was scrolling through flippa a little bit ago and saw a World of Warcraft website just sold for 50K. So my question is, is WOW and the gaming Niche still profitable even though im so late to jump on the bandwagon. I noticed that the guys main revenue on the website was selling guides and what not. Also, im not a huge gamer myself, have any of you had success with not a huge amount of knowledge on the game itself?

How do you want to monetize WOW?

Well you can sell guides but there are lots of free ones..so you have to be unique. Or you can sell WoW gold and accounts. Brings decent money although its illegal according to blizz..But it still goes on..for eg a US buyer buys the account of lvl80-85 for 200-250$ gets some good loot and gear( if you are a good gamer you can get them easy but dont be a *****) and sells on website or craiglists. Sells for 350-800$ depending on gearscore and AP.

Google for more info. But i think for guides..you have to be unique, if you are not you will get loads of refunds.

Yes, but keep in mind it's never too late. There is a new game coming out tomorrow, and every day is tomorrow.
 
Better look for diablo 3. If you want to make really unique and helpfull guides you'd better play the game on professional level or at least hire some pro gamers. There are plenty of kids who will be glad to play the game for you and make guides. But if you are serious you must have already started the diablo 3 beta, prepared your skill tree etc... It really can take your whole time (12 hours+ per day) to become pro in such a game and be able to answer all questions and suggest some unique farming guides.

You obviously don't know enough about gaming to stand any chance of appealing to gamers...
 
there will always be money in the gaming niche , as ppl said you should focus on the new gaming coming out like diablo(coming out ~jan 2012), Guld wars 2, SWTOR (coming out december), tera (coming out spring ~2012)
Also you can give out the guides for free and monetize with content locker and CPA , maybe CPA will be better since gamers more easy will give out their e-mail than spending money on guides ;o
 
Create some sort of premium hack and charge a monthly membership. Or have it metered and make them do surveys to increase the usage time, 1 survey = 2 hours of botting or something like that. People WILL pay to cheat, and the ones that won't will definitely have no problem doing surveys.

The good think about World of Warcraft over Runescape is all WoW players have money. They all pay $20/month, when only 30% of Runescape players (or whatever it is) pay that $5 per month. This means, if a WoW member really wants something, they will pay.
 
I have noticed a huge decrease in sales over the last 3 months, from 2-3k a month to 300$-400$ bucks, traffic is the same. To make any sales you need a very good quality and 2011 design product, don't ever think to promote a junk scrolling page with a junk product. A pdf guide won't sell anymore, you need to sell an in-game addon or a site with instructional videos.

I am in the pvp niche and I was promoting LvL86, an in game keybind addon, too bad they are not around anymore. They had a good product with good landing page with 2-3% refund rate. I saw they made another guide for pve, skillfarmers.com. as you can see the design and product are 2011; another sale page I like is skill-capped.com but they don't have an affiliate program. damn. So if you find a good product it may work out well but remember in the pvp niche sales for me sales dropped by 80%.
 
The first niche i started with in my IM adventure (6 months ago) was World of Warcraft, i was making more then 800$ a month from organic traffic and good rankings with one website.
 
Since I dont have huge knowledge as far as the games themselves go to create a guide and what not do you think it would be better to promote someone elses product or just scouring the net for guides that are already made and putting them all on a site with a content locker?
 
Wish there was a "gaming" sub forum here lol. I looked for gaming niche and wow and it didnt yield many results.
 
for wow guides you are way to late, zygor has a new release soon you can try it

I was in the wow niche and made around 8k but you need to twist it and make your own sub niches

I agree. That's the main reason I was asking about WOW is the required monthly dues and their loyalty. I just need to think of a way to be competitive. Will be hard without first hand knowledge of the game.
