g@@gle BROAD, EXACT, PHRASE, keyword tool what the hell?

I think I have screwed myself over big time. Not realizing the importance of my keyword in exact search mode.

OK heres the deal,

#1: I searched and searched in g@@gle keyword tool untill I found a keyword phrase with little competition and 300,000 local monthly searches.

#2: I bought several domains with my keyword phrase in the domain.

#3: created an auto blog that is now rather SEO'ed (wordpress sucks for this, and yes i know about all those plugins for seo)

And now I realize that if I do an EXACT keyword tool search there is only 8100 local monthly searches and it has medium competition.

OK wait a minute. what exactly is an EXACT in g@@gle keyword search tool? Dose this mean the user puts the search term in periphrasis? will I ever be found by users in gogle?

I need some advise, any advice folks.

im not sure of the details, but you should be always doing it on 'exact' not 'broad'

8,100 isn't that bad for a single keyterm as long as its semi-valuable.

You should be able to make some money off it at least.

I'll go do an exact search at g@@gle and see how my competition is. if they are well seo'ed for that search

OK the first three are not optimized for my keyword. only one of the top three has my keyword in their meta keywords. but the first three are https (more value i think)

but none of them are any where near optimized like me for this keyword. but only 8100 a month ?

what can i expect for only 8100 a month? Ive been reading and reading and doing and doing and I am a very very fast learner, but dam, i over looked this. I already invested in this. I will start to look for another keyword to invest in. but dam i had high hopes for this keyword.

A good explanation for keyword match types would be:

1. Broad match : for example if you make a keyword research for the term "NBA" in the search volume will show up the searches for a lot of keywords like (Basketball , basket ball , watch NBA , play NBA , NBA online , play NBA online , play basketball ; and so on ... even misspelled keywords)

2. Phrase match : if you do your keyword research for "NBA" and look at the search volume this will sum all the keywords that have the form x."NBA".x where X can be anything . Example : "play NBA" , watch NBA , watch NBA live , NBA live

3. Exact match : this will show up the search volume just for the keyword so actually you will see exactly how many ppl are searching that keyword in google.

However , when you do keyword research and make plans , don't think that if you rank for a keyword that has 10 000 searches you will get 10 000 monthly visits , because there are many factors to take in consideration like :

- CTR (impressions/clicks) - A/B your title and metatags using webmaster to get higher CTR (a good CTR for first rank would be around 70%)
- Statistics error , google will not show you exactly how many searches that keyword is getting because actually they register just about 10-20% of their traffic and then scale up the stats that they are getting so you will have an approximation number , not an exact number
- Search volume may vary from month to month

Good luck with the keyword research for the next time , keyword research it's a critical important step in planning your online business and must be done correctly .

also i should say that if you are doing SEO , you do SEO for exact match keyword , but with some onpage SEO you can rank for some phrase match keywords.
Ex: If you try to rank for "Play NBA' you can rank for 'play NBA online' with some SEO onpage and some links , for sure

I think thats because YT holds such authority... there's no chance to rank number 1 for that term. Therefore not many people try to rank for it? That's my guess. Anyone with knowledge that can shed more light on that please do... very interesting topic.

Google ADWORDS keyword tool shows competition on the ADWORDS bidding system, and does NOT directly correlate with SEO competition.

Just check your competition manually. Type the keywords/phrase you have bought a domain for into google, and manually check out the top 10 pages.
Are they optimized for the term? How many backlinks show in YSE? How old are the sites etc etc.

Yeah watch out I originally thought that that was competition too, but that's how much competition their is for bidding for those keywords for Advertisers and not how many competing webpages their are or how optimised they are.

If you want to know competing webpages then you can simply click the keyword and it will open a new page with how many competing sites there are.

If you want a more in depth on how easy it is to rank for that keyword you'll need a paid tool like MNF or MS or if you don't want to pay for those or download the free version of Traffic Travis which can give a decent evaluation on how hard it will be to rank for that keyword.

Yes, don't get caught out with the competition data. What this does however do is give you an indication of the value of the Market given when advertisers are not spending money that is either because there are no decent returns to be had or they simply are unaware of the niche... This is where your judgement comes in...

If you want to see SEO competition use market samurai , see what backlinks first 10 websites are having , what is the Avg Pr , what is the domain age. on page seo don't really matters .

Another free tool you could try is Traffic Travis to give you an overview of the competetion.

It looks like you're starting to realise what the competetion bar is all about but just to make it clear...for SEO purposes - DON'T pay attention to it.

Also, as someone mentioned. 8,100 [exact] searches, for one keyword per month is pretty good.

Market samurai, micro niche finder, traffic travis....all these tools can help you find out competition levels and searches, they are much more useful than google keyword tool
