This is business just like any other - if you love working on your own, then all you have to do is stay at home and do your thing.
If you enjoy working with other people, then as soon as you start making good amount of $$$, you can hire a few people, open an office, see clients in your office if you decide to start offering services, and so on. Or you can share an office with a friend, it is all up to you!

As for getting bored Im new to all of this and have only been working online for myself these last few months. I got into IM because I want a better life with more money and more time to enjoy it! Im aiming for 4-6k a month and a 4 hour day Arn't we all though haha
So far Im doing ok but the important thing is Im enjoying it all, I dont get bored no, but if I do I switch off the computer and go do something. I get up at 4 everyday so my day starts early online. I can get most of my work done early on and enjoy the rest of the day

I don't feel Lonely!
I got many friends from IM world.. and found my life partner via IM
I can give time to myself without explaining anything to anyone..
I have my own office and employees.. and believe me.. being a boss is one of the best feelings in this world!

Unrequested suggestion: if you're in for the long haul with IM and trying to stay sane without turning into a sociopath (way too many on and off line already) I'd warmly suggest not to content yourself with forum-buddies and other virtual friends.. Word of the wise...

You will feel lonely only if you dont get success in IM as how i am facing personally at present. But dont give up, I myself have decided the same!

yeah it's a lonely road until you make $$$$ good money on your paypal living in the 3rd world country kinda depressing if you don't have money but now IM change my life I don't have much friend but I have good money and I have a gym every morning I go to my gym after that I feel complete seeing my wallet and body are in good terms makes me feel complete I will soon marry my girl friend when I'm stable enough

and my boss is afraid that I may put in my resignation if he intervenes so he stays out of it, and so everyone is happy!

Not exactly lonely, I play PC games most of the time while working IM and ofcourse eating on my desk at d'same time. For me this is life!

haha im lonely as, Im Australian and im living in Slovenia and im a pretty social dude, go out have drinks, musician, pretty active in general blah blah, i'll talk to anyone really.
I dont speak the tongue at all so it dosnt help my situation, I hang with my wifes friends when ever that happens, its alright as a social bandaid but no common interests plus bad english, its a mediocre social life. i've past the point of socializing so i just work all day and learn the IM thing and doing websites.
I have lived here for 1 year and so far not a single friend :|

This. Although I work from my office, alone, most of the time (I do like my own space and company). If it's a nice day today and I have a friend who's not at work, there's no reason I can't take my laptop to the pub and enjoy the weather, have a beer and socialise whilst sending the occasional email. One of the biggest perks of full time IM - freedom.
