BigFat, you downplay this! I think it's a big deal.

When the FTC recommends that the federal gov't sue you, you better git your act together!

I was thinking of an atomic bomb, but chemical warfare would do just as well.

Lol I will tell the gov its my property, So they can get the ftc after. LOL.

seriously though, googles lawyers will tie this up for months even years,
Pay the HUGE fine. which will be about half a days earnings.
then bring out s different method to screw us.

The laws where not made to handle companies like google or facebook, they just have too much money and clout.

New laws where they can be forced to shut down till the inquiry is over. is probably the only way to stop them.

    Unfortunately this will never happen.

Ive noticed lately in Ireland, on some searches, they are taking up tp 94% above the fold.
Reducing organis searches to 7, and increasing ad count to 17. with one new thing related results.
So that if you dont find a suitable add above the fold, they are pointing you to a new search page.

People are asking is SEO Dead,
If google continue to get away with this,
It will either kill SEO or Google
I have now stopped using google for my real searches, and only use it for IM.

i know we are probably to blame for a lot of crappy sites sitting on top of the serps,
but the real fact is, Google is putting even worse sites on top now,

I haven't seen the figures lately, but my guess is their affiliates now earn them a lot less than they did a year ago.
So in fact, they are trying to bring their affiliate earnings down to less than 10% of their adwords income

Maybe they sense their time is limited at having total control of the internet and are squuezing every buck that they can, while they can.

I.m sure in a few years time Google owners and lawyers, will look back at this time, as the good old days, when they had complete control of the internet.

If history teaches us one thing. Nothing stays the same,
    Even the greatest empires fall

I just wish it would just happen sooner to the The Big G

For those of you who think google is your friend and you just need to keep pleasing them

Look at the shit, the British Empire left behind, when it crumbled,
Civil Wars all over the world. some still going on 80 years later

Or the last days of the Vietnam War, Watch the videos, as the american army ran and abandoned
    the people, that supported them.

Though I chose the British and Americans as examples, Its not that I am anti either, these are just 2 of the most recent.

I am not saying the fall off google will bring anything like these tragedies, but a lot of peoples lives and businesses will be ruined. while the fortunes of others will rise and grow

Enough. Im starting to ramble LOL

Why couldn't the FTC issue them a much bigger fine, in billions?

I'm not sure about that. I don't think anyone is truly above the law because other corporate entities will use the law to get what they want, which I suspect is what is happening here.

But the full story on this is that the FTC is not so much concerned about Google favoring its verticals as they are about transportability of Adwords. Goes to show you how out of touch the FTC is with reality. I bet the FTC decision makers looking at this case go home and watch television on black and white TV sets that use rabbit ears.

    True

Not even close to comparing the same things! Let's see mass murder to a search engine.....?

But if you really want to know the answer is yes. You can do pretty much do anything you want in this world. The only reality is that you must be willing to live with the consequences of those actions.

Example - Just because there is a death penalty, it does not stop people from getting murdered everyday. Just because a person gets life in prison or the death penalty it didn't stop the crime from happening. I may only get to do it one time but, I still did it!

As for the FTC suing google...my response if i were them "Who Cares"! Google is sitting on $50 billion in cash alone! They've got a market cap of $245.13 billion dollars.

Samsung recently got hit with a $176 million dollar fine, they have a market cap of $181 billion thats 0.095%. Glaxo got a $3 billion dollar fine for fraud. Market cap $113.16 billion, that's 2.65%. Did they make more than that $3 billion off the fraud? I bet they did.

Simply put, did they "have the right" commit the fraud, nope. Did they have the ability...sure did. So they did it.

In the end it's not about someones right to do something, it's do they have the ability to do it. It's their search engine and this is the business model they are choosing to use. We can bitch, complain and sue all we want. Just look at how many ftc cases there have been . Right now google can and WILL continue and they will milk it to end. Is google going to be gone in the next year...3 years .....10 years? In the time it takes to finally bring them down how many billions of dollars will they have made?

Take marketing software like xrumer or scrapebox. Do i have the right to spam blog comments or forums, nope. Do i have the ability to, yup. So i can and i do. Now have i made enough to cover my ass if anything should happen, i would hope so. As long as it makes money I'll do it until it is no longer useful or am told to stop and it's no longer financially viable to keep fighting it.

Google will keep moving ahead with paid search results until they have to stop, but that will be a while. In the meantime they will keep raking in advertisers dough. They are just blackhatting their system.

yup, Corporations are the ones calling the shots, having certain laws passed specific to their interests. The punks in the white house are mere puppets of these devils. Kissing their bosoms as they move closer and closer to haedes maggot and puss infested gates. They love it though. They all love drinking out of their puss filled cups.

The EC however... definitely appears to be a serious thorn in their side:

    http://in.reuters.com/article/2012/09/20/eu-google-universal-idINL5E8KKI2H20120920

Tell this to the FDA, USDA, IRS, etc...
I'd gladly take a huge evil google, if it meant that the above statement were ACTUALLY true.

Unfortunately, you're completely wrong. All sorts of things are regulated, heavily. Telecommunications is no different.

I mean hell, you cannot even sell non-pasteurized milk from your own farm in the USA (You'll go to jail for up to 10 years)... and you're telling me "Google can do anything they want". What planet are you living on?

Maybe a percentage fine would be more effective. 10% of of their yearly income would be pretty devastating.

Eat it up America, and watch your tax dollars go towards funding another drawn out war on free enterprise.

I do find it entertaining that the same people clamoring about how unfair SOPA and PIPA were, and parading the cause of internet deregulation, are the same ones getting behind the FTC on this though.
