Anybody got a video frontpaged recently? Does it still bring a ton of users to your video or the new layout made it less effective?

    Thanks.

Where on the frontpage can you get to? Everything on the front page is specifically curated by YouTube... You can get to the front of the browse page but even that is now being auto generated based off previous videos you watched so that's kind of impossible.

Unless you're talking about the first page of results when searching?

When the full change commences, there will be no value in going viral on YouTube anymore. It has not only killed any kind of viralization but also has forced people to start spending money on getting viewer attention. The only things you can do now are rank for search results. The funny part of the update is, now it has fully become P2W. You pay you win the cash and views, but even then people are starting to become immune to the ads on YouTube.

That's exactly what I was referring to.

I was under the same impression, but since I basically don't see anyone talking about that, I was pretty sure to be wrong. I mean, if this is permanent, this could be the end of an era. Beside if viralization really dies on YT, we could see the rise of new serious competitors taking that spot.

I actually don't remember the last time I saw and clicked on a true viral video on the youtube front page. It was always populated by people like sxephil, ShaneDawsonTV, RayWilliamJohnson, dudes like that. And guess how they got on there? They bought their views (a lot of them did).

For people who aren't logged in, their front page is still populated by "front page videos", but even that is somewhat influenced by the websites you visit and videos you watch.
If you have an internet classic on your hands then put it on reddit and it'll get big.

I see all of this as a good thing. People are shown videos that they are interested in and because of that they watch more videos. Through both factors more people get exposure for their content. Now instead of there being 10 sxephils, there are 100 people who are 1/3 sxephil and he is half the man he used to be. Net gain for youtube and beneficial for people who aren't sxephil. Sucks for people who relied getting on the front page for their income though.

Youtube is less P2W than it used to be, not more. Now people who don't pay actually have a good chance to make it. If you still want to P2W then you are going to have to pay a whole lot more and it'll never have the same effect that it used to.

Never really thought of this recently but I guess you're right. But somehow people still find videos and send them around and they become viral, so I wouldn't say it's dead in its entirety but definitely hit hard due to the new layout.

I'm literally spending around $3k a month on Adwords campaigns to draw in around 4,500 subscribers. This used to be around $800, but I see where it is going here. I guess it just comes down to being smart and knowing what to do, which this sections fails every day at. So for shits and giggles I'll go ahead and reveal a tiny method I use to hook scrubs from search rankings of Google.

    1. I buy a popular keyword and max out bid cpc by $0.01 more than suggested bid.
    2. I buy some cheap traffic to my video directly so when they click on it, it looks likea lot of people watched it.
    3. I buy social signals and start marketing it to some Facebook peeps I bought for this purpose.
    4. I rinse and repeat test results until I get satisfactory feedback and results.

The method works wonders, just that by the time YouTube updates data it is either hit or miss. It can be tweaked and updated a lot of ways, but I ain't here to hold your hands.

It also takes a lot of patience. A lot of videos that go truly viral, take months or even years before they REALLY take off. I personally look at YouTube as a long term project, and so I just use Adsense with it, and wait. Upload all original content so it wont get taken down, and just let it work for me. Think long term people.
