Websites usually go high at first, I have seen this for my sites if I'm aggressive with backlinking. It usually stays high for a week or two then drops to nowhere then goes back up after a month or two. But that's with my competitive terms, so you might stay there or move up fine. Keep us updated.

It is entirely possible if the site is old and has not been moving from its position and if you find some low competition keywords, then the income claim made by OP seems to be correct..
