Just wondering while my site had Google penalty it was PR3 now that it has been taken out of penalty by appealing and fixing the site it is at PR0? Is this normal?

My penalty was not related to back links which is the strange thing it was content related.

This is often the case for blogs which are full of bad content

Did you remove the content from your site? If those pages had links pointing to them, all that PR vanished.

No this was not some crappy blog this is a legit website which for lead gen which has made me lots of money. No content was removed just rewritten that is all. I just wonder if my ranking will be affected this time around when I get back to doing SEO and getting the site back to where it was before.

Well during the penalty I did lose my rank now I need to get back up but I reckon the PR is not super important right now getting back with the SEO work is and hopefully that should bring back some PR.

i think you build some links and then they removed from sites. When google updated then google didn't found any thing so thats why you got pr 3 to pr 0

I'm curious about how you know you had a G penalty and that it was content related, do you use Webmaster Tools and did they tell you there about the penalty?
I have a site that has some copy/paste content for filler (was not intending it for SEO) that was bringing me search traffic for two weeks before G slapped my site and stopped sending me search traffic.
When I check the site in Webmaster Tools and look at my search queries stats, it rises to 1000 impressions a day for two weeks and then straight drops to 0 impressions a day overnight. But what I don't understand is why G doesn't tell why me in Webmaster Tools for this. I have a sitemap uploaded and all the pages are indexed so G didn't completely de-index my site from search and I'll still get one or two visits from G search.
I know it had to be content related, like I mentioned I needed quick content for my visitors so I just slapped some info from a wiki, not intending it for search traffic (but was happy to get it of course), but I wish I had a way to know for sure that this was the problem.

Hey mate I had Google webmaster send me a message that my site had been penalized relating to content I think mine was due to their updates and well after spending countless money on some incompetent SEO workers trying to figure out what they meant by content, I fired the SEO workers and used my own brain and SEO knowledge to figure out some cheating idiots had ripped my entire homepage and been using it on some random websites related to my niche and then they cloaked and redirected that content all over some many sites to get traffic for themselves. I then hired a writer to rewrite my entire homepage because that is all their bots had ripped and then resubmitted a request to Google and was approved.
I think maybe your penalty is not update related that is why you have no message from Google, maybe you should ask in the webmaster forums they are quite helpful.
A message is given if a manual penalty is applied (except if you receive an "unnatural links" message).
Chances are, your penalty was done via algorithm, and not manual. Therefore - no message in webmaster tools.
