I'm looking into buying a logo, and wanted some friendly advice from some people here as you know your stuff :)

When it comes to logo design, what's so special about the logos costing 500$-1500$? I've seen some, and they look the same as the free ones (to me, anyway).

Are these really worth it? And why?

And what would you recommend a company starting up?

It's down to the persons, time, worth and experience. A logo designer will normally ask about the company, do some research into you, the market and what you aim to do and will try and convey that into a logo.

You get what you pay for.

Your starting a company. What's the difference between you and a competitor? Why are you going to charge 5000 for a service when someone else will charge 500 for the same thing? ... see how it works there? ;)

Thanks man. Nah, I get experience, professionalism, etc. Maybe it's just me, but I can't really tell the difference between a 30$ logo and a 1000$ logo. I appreciate charging more comes down to service and whatever, but I don't just get it when it comes to logos.

As usual, happy to learn otherwise.
 
I always like a simple logo that is easy to see and recognize in any resolution.
 
Only If you are a really big company you can pay that much for a logo otherwise it's waste of money.
And the difference between 30$ logo and 1500$ logo is the idea that the designer made for the logo the 30 logo just design or poor idea and the 1500$ logo is a real idea to show the background of your company the idea can take week from the pro designer while the logo design can take 3 or 4 hours
 
Hi Ravi, I completely understand what you mean and in fact, I also wonder about the vast difference between logo designing charges and the final output NOT in line with the charged designing fee.

it actually doesn’t matter too much except the fact that with designer doing the logo job at a small 25/30 dollars involves personal intervention in spelling out the expectation time and again WHEREAS with someone charging 10 or 20 times of that brings out a real out of the box creative design without much of guidance and expression of expectation. That’s my personal experience.

it’s a logo and not a painting which would get valued with the painters/designers name on it. So, I think it will be waste of time and money to engage an expensive logo designer. I think, do not stretch your budget more than 100 dollars.

The only difference is branding, for me it's the same like buying bag or designer bag.
 
If you do the research for yourself, find out what type of styles, colours, shapes, etc. work for the niche you are in, I have used a very cheap logo designer who has done an amazing job at creating logos.

If you don't want to do the research yourself, pay for someone who will, but it will be more expensive.

I think "most" of the people who design logos as their job will do a good logo for you quality-wise. But I believe that it is the research you pay for. Only my opinion though.

My advice is to try someone like @richardsjason. He has always done a very good job for me, and he is cheap. If you buy from him and don't like it, what have you wasted? If you buy a $1000 logo and don't like it, you are in a much worse position.

I take it you've already got your logo designed. I shall still try to give my two cents here.

As some of the above posts suggest, the difference between a $10 logo and a $1000 one is mostly the amount of research put into conceptualizing the design is involved. And it can go exponentially large. But that happens for large companies with many verticals, markets, etc.

For you, dear friend, having a $10-20 logo would make equal sense, since you're starting out. However, try adding some concepts from your end for a quick and satisfactory design.
 
Focus more on building a solid brand-even with a 30 dollar logo. Remember:Amazon started with a spray painted logo
