Not sure about how long, but it would take a while may be months or years and this totally depends on how tough the competition is and how good your stuff is compared to others.
 
Took me about 2 weeks for a KD 0-3 on ahrefs to pop top 50
 
Domain age is not the only factor that helps the ranking of the domain, there are a lot of things to be considered while starting the SEO work and during the work such as competition of keywords, the level of On-page optimization, and the quality of backlinks you are creating...

If you are starting a new domain and making the website live for the first time, make sure to make the pages live for indexing only when they are completely optimized... First impression is the last impression so when your website is getting indexed on Google, it will be ranked somewhere on google...
 
Thought there is a kind of sandbox for new domains?
 
Get a press release backlink and lots of clicks from the SERP.
 
Depending on your work, how you customize the site, how you design it, and what kind of content you publish, if you do everything well, you can rank within one to two months.
I did, So I speak from my own experience :)
