french seo and linkbuilding(translating UK site)

Hi there, i am in the proccess of translating a couple of websites into french to hit the french market! howether im not sure on linkbuilding for this! has anybody translated there websites to hit a different market? if so do you use hosting from the country you are translating to? and when link building do you gain links from sites from the country? or would you still use the same ones that you use in Uk/USA the keywords i would be going for would be the translated versions.
