Freelancing Help?

I am good at video editing, after effects etc. I tried creating some gigs on fiverr and in about 25 days I earned about 70$. But I think fiverr taking a 20% commission from my earnings is too much. Especially when we are working for $5

Are there any good sites where I can find work as a video editor? I don't wanna become a millionaire overnight. I know IM doesn't work that way. I just think on fiverr we have to do $50 worth of work for $5 and we only end up getting $4 for a project after fiverr's cut

I have tried Odesk few years ago, but it's damn hard to find work. Especially when you are new and don't have reviews

Please help.

The key to bidding sites is in the proposal.

At least with Fiverr, people come to you. But Fiverr is shit providers and buyers.

I pay 35% to a site as commission on my writing. It hurts but I get to just write and don't have to do any bidding or proposing. You have to think of it like this -- they are doing all the marketing, hosting, support, etc and you do nothing but sit back and wait for people to come to you and buy.

Where are you based? I mean how much do you need per month ? $70 for first month in the freelance world is not bad.... if you got some reviews then maybe next month you can make it $100 and increase each month expand to other things than just fiverr.
Don't want to sound racist or something but if you live somewhere where you can live on $400 a month, then $70 for first month is ok and then you could try to expand to other freelancer sites.

I believe the online freelancing world is kind of scrappy and you need some decent savings before getting involved in it, maybe it's an exagerration but it's almost like:
'' Hey I need a job done, who on this planet of 7 million people will do it at the lowest cost? ''

BUT you need skills in demand that will keep the money coming consistently. That only you can know.

You have a point. But on the other hand, fiverr ranks our gigs how they want. And they change the algorithms very often. With that uncertainty it's hard to think about a stable income

I'm from Sri Lanka. And yes, if I can earn $400 per month, it's enough for a single person for a month

What I am thinking is, on fiverr, I only get $4 per gig. Maybe if I try elance or odesk I might get $50 for the same effort :/ But like you have suggested, the best thing would be to work on fiverr for some more time and then move to other freelancing sites
