Okay so I've been looking for a good VPS host to use for GSA search engine ranker, no hands seo, and any other tools I might pick up in the near future. While looking I came across some people talking about free vps services (and being skeptical but open to possibilities I took a look in :D). From that I came across this:

Code:
http://www.vps.me/free-vps

So I must ask, has anyone used this service, know anything about this service, and can either attest to its validity or that it won't spam me while using it. It feels very VERY wrong to me (everyone has a means to get money somewhere on the internet) so I'm asking here first :D

Is this service legit and they just expect their freebie customers to upgrade later or is it a scam?

EDIT:

I'm obviously not planning on running any of my high bandwidth tools on there (10 GB bandwidth limit, duh) but I have a few scripts, bots, and programs that don't take up "too" much bandwidth that I could probably run more efficiently from a vps.

I don't have any experience with them, but judging by the fact that they offer paid services too, they seem legit. According to their About Us page they just launched, so this may just be a tactic to gain publicity. However, keep in mind that with 600Mhz and 384 MB of RAM, it's going to be painfully slow. I'm assuming most of their clients end up getting fed up and upgrade later on. Also, it's a Linux VPS and those SEO tools are all Windows based.

I thought GSA had linux compatability

348mb of RAM isn't gonna run your SEO tools very reliably.

The following is from their FAQ page. Although it should work, it won't be running natively.

Will the software work on MAC/Linux (anything other than Windows)?

No. All our software was build for Microsoft Windows 9X/XP/2000/Vista or compatible (e.g. ReactOS). However you can try running our software with an emulator just like Wine for Linux or VMWare for Mac. That will almost work on every OS.

Thank god I was only considering running some bots on this then. Time to ensure I get a windows vps then for my seo tools and just let this run the scripts if I decide to use it :3

So,
you can get a free vps there and put up vmware on it, right?

thanks for letting us know even it have low ram it will be useful to us

It depends on the technical kind of VPS. As a rule of thumb most of these lowend VPS are virtual machines themselves and you might not be able to run any further virtual environment at all. Lowend VPS have their own place that's certainly not for running intensive .net tools on windows: with 384MB of ram you'll be lucky to run low profile linux (native) web server with lighthttpd or a small dns / smtp backend, that's all.

I succefully signed up for the freeVPS but when trying to verify phone for sms validation
I get error "Clickatell: ERR: 001, Authentication failed" so NO VPS.

I filed a support ticket FWIW but alas no reply.

I think however after peeping around that it's a scam to collect our emails and digits! :yield:
A ton of others report the exact same thing and could not find anyone that successfully got the freeVPS!

Enjoy ..... :cool2:

No i don't think you can run Vmware or any virtualization software within a VPS. The CPU is virtualized already and wouldn't support sub-virtualization.
Wine is an emulator and should work fine.

This won't run those seo tools or run automated bots, but if you're currently on a shared hosting this is a big plus from sharing resources with others to having something seperate for you. That is however if you can learn linux commands to install stuffs like mysql, php or something like kloxo.

You can get cpanel, etc ~ or at least it 'says' you can.

Enjoy ..... :cool2:

Kloxo is an open source web hosting CMS. Cpanel is a paid one.

Many tutorials on the web to install Kloxo cms on VPS out there.

I know that.

When you order the 'freeVPS' you can get an option for Centos 6 32/64bit with
preinstalled cpanel and there was no charge for it.

Not trying to argue with you just telling what I know.

Try it for yourself if you don't believe me.

Enjoy ..... :cool2:

The paid version of this vps.me looks kind of intriguing. Anybody tried it? If it is reliable for this price and supports SEO tools it looks good.
