This post is to explain how to get your free typepad.com microblog.

It isn't obvious when you are signing up for typepad that you actually can get a free account. In fact, if you belong to iautoblog.com, their video actually says it is a paid service only ... but you can set up a free account. Here is how you do it.

  1. go here: http://www.typepad.com/pricing
  2. click "sign up" on the $8.95 per month "plus"
  3. this takes you to "step 2", pick your blog subdomain and fill in other info, click submit
  4. next you are taken to fill out your billing information. forget this screen, don't fill in any information
  5. Go here: http://www.typepad.com/, you will see that you are already logged in. click to go to dashboard
  6. in the right column, under "manage my blogs", you will see "create your free blog" button. click it
Voila, you have your free microblog.

If you're building web2.0 linkwheels or using iautoblog, this should help you increase the size of your network. Typepad.com has almost 19 million pages indexed and PR8, so don't miss out!

That's because you get a 14 day FREE trial, after the 14 days i suspect they will twig and delete the blog.

Nope, its free ... I've had one for the last 2 years.

http://www.typepad.com/micro/

If you go to that page, it is obvious how to get a free one (if you have a facebook account). It's just not obvious how to get a free micro blog if you don't have a facebook account.

Yes your right!! I can see its the FREE blog because its not the domain i typed into the paid form. Thanks for the info! :D

Just to clarify things, if you want a free typepad account and you don't want to use facebook to sign up, then don't use the http://www.typepad.com/micro/ url, because you cannot sign up for the micro blog there unless you're using facebook.

To sign up without a facebook account, follow the instructions in the first post.

I should also clarify that you will not end up with the exact subdomain you originally tried to sign up with in step #3 in the instructions. They will automatically create a subdomain for you based off the name of your email. Keep this in mind if your subdomain is very important to you.

For instance, if you want your subdomain on typepad to be "sexyhalloweencostumes.typepad.com", then you need to register (for example) "[email protected]". Then when you click to create your free microblog, it will take the "sexyhalloweencostumes" from your email and automatically make that your subdomain (or use that with the number 1 at the end if it is already taken).

Yes! confirmed..

Anyway, is it long lasting or just temporary?

But, anyway, I'll keep my blog.. good post op... :)

They are permanent. Around 3 years ago I found an abandoned PR6 typepad blog ... back then they were all paid for. I signed up for typepad, paid the fee and took over that blog.

Then about 1 1/2 or 2 years ago, they introduced their "free" micro blogs. I downgraded my blog to free status at that time. It has been free ever since.

When you do this, you get a micro blog -- all micro blogs are free. For a long time, you could sign up for a micro blog without having to have a facebook account. I'm not sure when, but they seemingly require facebook now on their micro blog signup form.

You can still sign up for a free micro blog without needing facebook by using the technique above. That technique is only getting you the free version, in fact it says "click here to get your free microblog".

done with signup process, will surely update after 14 days and hope this thing goes perfect :)

Big thanks Mr. PHPBuilt :plane:

Another great thing about typepad.com ... they leave you alone :D I've had an adult sex toys blog there for over 3 years and they haven't messed with me at all. They have 377k pages indexed for "casinos", 919k pages indexed for "viagra", 129k pages indexed for "ugg boots", they don't get deleted.

Typepad is one of the places you can do your seo work and feel confident you're not going to get it all yanked out from under your feet. It is one of the highest quality web2.0s out there for seos.
