It depends, if you are experienced and know what you are doing, and of course have money to invest, then you could try with paid traffic.
If you are not so sure, go with free traffic, start learning about SEO etc. You have lots of ways to get free traffic. Try with social networks.

Why you should prefer paid over free traffic:

Sure free traffic sounds awesome and most of the people think this way when they getting started with CPA.

BUT most of the people always forget that there is one thing you will always loose:
Your Time... you will spend hours and hours to try to generate that free traffic and then you realize that the offer you picked is not converting well/at all.

Why you should go for paid traffic:

- Direct Results: If you launch a campaign and let it run for 24 hours you will be able to see if it is profitable or not, furthermore you will have a lot of data which you can analyze and use the outcome of the analysis to improve your campaign to increase the ROI.

- With paid traffic you can make more money, because they are much easier to scale.

Just set a butget which you can use every month for you campaigns:
300$ is already enough to start.

If you don't have money: get a job which pays for your campaigns.

If you want success in this you need to work hard for it.

If you have time and money to research and test your ads, then paid is the way to go. Imagine spending $1000 each month and making back $4000 all on autopilot. Results could be better or worse depending on competition, landing page, niche, etc.

Ideally start with free to pay for it later. Hope my opinion helps

Targeted free traffic is always the best but the hardest. You need to use both methods.

If you prefer "set and forget" making money style, then go with free traffic.

Paid traffic is definitely not autopilot, it requires you to monitor and add new ads / test / launch new campaigns on daily even hourly basis.

That's true but with paid traffic you see faster results and with free traffic it's gonna take quite awhile.
