Social media links always carry a good weight if they are done correctly.

Forum backlinks, Links from social media, Web 2.0 are good. If its done good, you will get good traffic. But not all backlinks are equal and has same value.
In ranking a blog, if the keyword has higher difficulty, then these backlinks will have only less impact.

Build your own PBN. It's not free but it works and doesn't waste your time. Free backlink sources only work as diversification.
