These (subdomains / domains) are good for the temporary projects for testing purpose .
I created my first website when i was 13 years of age ,
as it was just the start and i don't have any means of buying the domain name so i used FREE domains like these .
I created many websites for testing and learning purpose just as a hobby .
I still remember some of the names like .co.nr , .co.nz , .tk .
.tk used to be my favourite because it was short .

You're really getting a subdomain, not a tld domain.
That could be good for small projects, but the reality is you get a domain for $1 - and the risk is that if your site becomes popular or has any value, you have no control - and you're giving some third party the benefit and value.
Many people tried .tk or co.cc back in the day and got burned because when sites got popular, they'd boot the owner and steal the domain and redirect traffic to ads.

.tk was spammed actually for adsense websites.You brought me down memory lane here, I was already in my 40s and up to no good but I had a lot of fun and .tk was my favorite too
