I've tried creating quite a few free backlinks, but I only see results with relevant links that have genuine interaction. The mass-generated links hardly budge at all. So it's best to focus on a few quality sources; it's safer and saves time

Free backlinks can work if they come from relevant and trustworthy sites quality matters more than quantity. Random or spammy free links can actually hurt your rankings instead of helping. Focus on getting links from real websites blogs and forums related to your niche.
When done properly free backlinks are effective for steady long-term SEO growth.
