Could someone tell me what the other top analytics softwares are for wordpress sites please? Be great if they was free :)

I've been using Piwik for years. I don't want G knowing my bounce rates. After switching from "G anals" 2 of 6 sites went up in serps within 30 days (maybe coincidence?)

Piwik is free open source: piwik.org
 
or try Open Web Analytics, it is almost as sophisticated as Piwik (except i18n)
has some neat features piwik doesn't, like recording visitors' mouse movements and generating click heatmaps.
 
+1 to piwik, also I use statcounter wp plugin, very recommended
 
can piwik be installed simply via wordpress plugins?

The tracking code can be installed with a wordpress plugin (piwik and owa too), but neither system has anything to do with wordpress. You install it in a separate folder and database table.
 
Can Piwik run simultaneously with Google analytics on one website, untill I decide which to stick to? I'm using GA at the moment...

this is all beyond me haha.

ive looked into piwik an i am not capable of installing it :)
 
Yes, piwik is pretty good.

On most of my sites, I simply use my awstats.

GA is in my opinion not a good thing to use on any site that's not 100% pure whitehat. And even then I wouldn't recommend it.

some hosts like dreamhost for example have 1-click piwik installs. You can use 1 piwik installation to track tons of different sites on different servers and hosts.
 
I am using piwik. The nice thing in contrast to awstats or webalizer is that it works by js-calls. This means, most bots are automatically excluded (although it does not check explicitely for bot IPs) and the numbers are more accurate. There is also a wordpress plugin availabe but - I do not remember why - I finally refused to use it. Instead, I put the js-snippet of piwik directly in the theme-footer - very simple and quickly doable.

I agree with you.
 
I agree also. I have GA installed on all of my MNS and they all got slapped.

Mind you though even if they hadnt had GA installed they coulda easily slapped me as they was all linked to the same adsense account.
