I've recently started going through the Tiered Link Building tutorials from Matthew Woodward.

It's a great series but he uses a lot of tools in the videos that cost quite a pretty penny: Specifically scrapebox and Ultimate Demon.

Now I'd like to get started with the methods in the videos asap but don't have the cash on hand. Can anyone recommend free or reduced cost alternatives to the programs mentioned in the Tiered Link Building Tutorials?

If you do it all manually it's free...

To be honest, I can't think of a piece of software that's equal grade and also free. Either you go for it and see it as a lifetime investment into IM (particularly Scrapebox) or you could rent a VPS with the tools installed which would be a lot cheaper but still not free.

Some well known SERP checkers. There are also some blog-posters avaible for specific blog-types. You can always get backlinks by getting posts at targeted forums.

Scrapebox isn't that costly. You get coupon on BHW and you get it under $60.

Regarding other stuff from Matthew. Think twice, he got affiliates on everything so he does have agenda there trying to push idea you need those tools. You don't

Beware free software for malware and trojans in this branch of business. Good developer would ask a dollar or two for a good software piece.
