Hi guys, I'm creating a local lead gen site and now that my on-page is on point I want to focus on getting links.

Besides citations what are other foundational/pillow links you are getting to diversify your backlinks profile?

I'm thinking about buying a Gig that will give me 150 branded/naked URL links divided into web 2.0 profiles, audio and image sharing services, and bookmarking sites.

What do you think about that ? is it necessary or the citations alone will do the job?

Consider that since this isn't a real business I'm not going to have a GMB listing

If you’re not planning on rolling with a GMB you have less to worry about but keep in mind that if you’re trying to rank for keywords that pull up a local 3 pack (maps) - you’re got a bit of a handicap as GMB and site rankings are correlated.

Personally for local here’s what I would do:

1. Create core branded social media accounts.
2. Hook them up via IFTTT for cross sharing of whatever I push out. (You can get a bit fancy and hook up a second layer of personal accounts to feed from the branded ones).
3. Build up core citations (Yelp, Foursquare, YP, Cylex etc...)
4. Build some authoritative profile links (make these look clean)
5. Find niche links I can build (comments, forum profiles, q&a).
6. Build more citations - try to get local with it, is there smaller directories in the city itself and etc.
7. Depending on what I want to do, I may build some general authoritative directories for topical context of my links. Alternatively, I may do some web2.0 work here, but web2.0s aren’t really white hat per se - they’re UGC and can do a lot of harm if done wrong.

Even though you have no GMB - make it look like a real business. Register a virtual address in the area, build citations around that, get your NAP right both on and off-site. In addition a high quality’s press release once every couple of months will do you good alongside a “company blog”.
