Hi all,

while checking the backlink profile of a site called beehiiv, I found something interesting.

They have millions of backlinks called embed(frame) backlinks which are not obviously visible in the source site.

They have this type of links everywhere and it seems to be working.

[Questions]
1. What are these links? Semrush doesn't provide much information.
2. I guess they pass link juice?
3. How can you build those type of links? Especially, in this massive amount of quantity?
4. Any risks associated with it?

1 - They're iframe embeds that pull content from beehiiv onto other sites.

2 - Yes, they can, though it's less effective than traditional backlinks.

3 - It requires a network of sites willing to embed your iframe content.

4 - Yes, there's a risk of being flagged for unnatural link patterns if overused.
 
Embedded iframe back links definitely not doing much and the proof is in the data. Look at that 38k referring domains, 16 million back links. And the traffic? Only 114k. The site is ranking because of the content and direct traffic they are getting.
 
I think it's more of an issue that SEMrush are counting iframes as backlinks. They're treated completely differently. Gotta bulk out your backlink data somehow though I suppose!
