yeah, there are apps out there that will track your ass.
 
from what I have seen none of the cell companies care as its more money for them. I did read however you could call up your company and have them give you the new phone number that is activated on that ID or whatever. Dunno if its possible actually
 
Your mums friend is an ass, I know this is a blackhat forum, but if I were him I would have phoned someone on the phone's contact list to inform a friend of the owner that I'd found his phone.

Exactly. The Jailbreaking has nothing do with the phone cant make calls. The phone's IMEI number got banned, so its worth like $50 but just because of the parts that works in it, display etc. For that price is ok, i see you're living in London, you can sell it for a fast 100 font or something like that. So the whole thing almost not worth the hassle, just give it back and ask for the money :)
