I was digging into competitor backlinks last month and kept hitting limits. The higher plans are expensive, and I didn’t want to upgrade just for more rows of data.
After testing a few things, I found a simple workaround that’s giving me way more backlink data without paying extra.
Instead of pulling backlinks domain-wide in one go, I started breaking targets into smaller parts. I analyze specific folders, old blog sections, and even subdomains separately. Then I export each set and combine them in a sheet. It takes a bit more time, but I’m seeing way more total links than when I just run one big report.
Another thing that helped was filtering by link type and date ranges, then repeating the process. For example, I’ll check only recent links first, export that, then widen the date range and export again. Same with ******** and nofollow splits.
It feels like the system caps large bulk pulls more aggressively than smaller, focused queries.
When I combine everything, I’m easily getting 5x to 10x more usable backlink data than before.
Not sure if this is intentional or just how the tool handles queries, but it’s working.
