If the forum allowed for spam, all backlinks from this forum will be consider low quality and Google may downgrade your ranking.

Most of the forum allows "no follow" links in signature or no index meta tag in profiles. Be very careful whilw adding a link in your signature. Your link must be related to the forum else you will neither get SEO benefits nor traffic.
