I am asking myself if forums do have any seo value for a website. I do not mean linkbuilding with signatures and so on. What I mean: does it work to establish a forum and trigger user generated content which in effect drives traffic to your money site?

Yeah, its a good method to get traffic from forum sites,
because there would be a lot of discussions, a lot of subforums and other categories so you would get a good lead from forum sites.

Yes definately it works. You need to take care of your forum from spam. You can offer quiz and give money to the winner. People can join your forum to participate in the quiz. And if they found the content, threads are useful for them then they take interest in participation in forum activities.
