    Hi guys,

I was wondering if it can be a problem to have a forum signature with a backlink to a website. For example, I see some people here on BHW having a banner with a link to their blog in their signature. How will Google perceive this? Can't this cause problems (looks spammy at times I think)?

BHW being such a huge active forum is considered a very authoritative community and links being built from here actually help you in improving your rankings and bring in lots of customers as well.

And to clarify, BHW is a black hat community and nothing illegal and there's a huge difference between both these terms.

Thanks. I know that BHW is not an illegal site. I meant that the plain URL (it's like that when people use a banner) posted in hundreds of threads could look a bit spammy.

Forum signatures are okay as long as you contribute good content in the forum you've joined in. Also, it is best that you only use the link and not your target keyword as your signature. These days, using target keywords as anchor text within your forum signature is considered spammy.

It's never been a problem. Perhaps, you have read some articles that tell people about the disadvantage of having links in your forum account's signature - SEO-wise. Not true.

As long as you actively participate on discussions without being sales-y in your posts, that'll help build or re-build your brand, product or service.

and just to add to the above mentioned... if you do want to add a signature to your profile will have to upgrade your account and come over to the blue side :)
