Learn how to properly post a question. Be specific enough so that people have some sense of what you are asking, and also demonstrate some effort into making your post. Don't appear to be too lazy to type a few words in, expect other people to have to work just to figure out what you are asking.

Op, this is the best lesson for you. Forum posting is all about obtaining signature backlinks from related forums.

I agree, however with one notable exception, that is BHW of course
where the content of the forum is more important

That would depend on if your link on the forum was a no-follow or not wouldn't it? Look into a forum profile backlink if you're goal isn't just to spam threads for traffic.
